Northside school alliance shines in industry awards
An alliance of Brisbane public schools has been recognised for its contribution to the state’s booming international education and training industry at Parliament House on Wednesday night.
The Brisbane North International School Alliance (BNISA), received the accolade for Outstanding International Student Support at the 2008 Queensland Education and Training International Awards for Excellence (QETI Awards), in a field containing entrants from around the state.
Minister for Trade John Mickel said the quality of entrants this year was exceptionally high, but BNISA’s work in accommodating international students at its schools was exemplary.
“The Alliance’s application showed how our industry is making Queensland an attractive destination for international students,” Mr Mickel said.
“By making every student’s experience memorable, they have developed strong relationships with partner institutions who are coming back every year.”
The Alliance was also recognised for its contribution outside the classroom, with its wealth of extra-curricular activities – such as a recent trip to Fraser Island – impressing the judges.
The awards, hosted by Trade Queensland’s Queensland Education and Training International, expanded its number of categories this year, attracting a competitive field of entrants from around the State.
The industry not only makes a significant contribution to Queensland’s reputation as the Smart State, but also to the economy as the state’s third largest export industry.
“It is world-class providers such as the schools of the Alliance that are cementing Queensland’s reputation as a study destination internationally,” Mr Mickel said.
