The Honourable John Mickel
Pathway program acknowledged by industry
QUT International College (QUTIC) has been recognised for its pathway programs at an industry awards ceremony hosted by Trade Queensland’s Queensland Education and Training International at Parliament House on Wednesday night.
The award comes in recognition of QUTIC’s pioneering work in teaching international students and providing English-language and academic pathway courses to further education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
QUTIC’s foundation pathways program is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, making it one of the first of its kind in Australia.
Minister for Trade John Mickel acknowledged the reputation the College’s pathway programs had in the industry.
“QUTIC’s innovation in the area of English-language pathways programs has cemented its standing as a market leader, both domestically and internationally,” Mr Mickel said.
“It is providers like QUTIC that are helping us develop a world-class education and training sector, attracting both valuable knowledge and skills to our educational institutions and industries,” he said
QUTIC was also praised for the support it provides to more than 1000 students at the college, with welfare services, homestays and cross-cultural understanding services all helping to make each student’s transition as smooth as possible.
A recent initiative of the College was an audiovisual presentation named “Cultural Bridge to the Classroom”, which helped prepare students for transition into both the routine of study and everyday life in Queensland.
“By providing a holistic approach, QUTIC has demonstrated its ability to provide students with a truly memorable and welcoming experience in our state.
It has also led to many other students seeking out QUTIC on reputation, and helped us to grow education and training to Queensland’s third largest export industry,” Mr Mickel said.
