Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt
State Government recognises Western Downs community heroes
The Queensland Government has recognised the contributions of two Western Downs community members through the Blueprint for the Bush Community Hero Awards.
Member for Mount Isa Betty Kiernan, who is in Roma for the inaugural Rural Women’s Symposium, presented the awards on behalf of Local Government Minister Warren Pitt.
Mr Pitt said the Community Hero Awards recognised those Queenslanders who had gone above and beyond the call of duty to make their community a better place to live, work and raise a family.
Mrs Kiernan said the awards were a Blueprint for the Bush initiative to honour and celebrate community members who continuously demonstrated tireless effort in making a difference to the lives of those around them.
“Meandarra’s Mary Crouch is an active volunteer with many community groups in her local area. She is the president of the local Meals on Wheels and is an active member of the Inglestone Country Women’s Association,” Mrs Kiernan said.
“Mary sits on the boards of both Meandarra Home and Community Care and Rural Financial Counsellors South West Queensland and she is also a volunteer with AgForce.
“Chinchilla’s Lorna Gadsby is heavily involved with the local branch of the Queensland Cancer Council, as well as a pastoral care program providing support for individuals and families.
“Lorna works tirelessly as one of Queensland Health’s clinical nurses, including fostering professional development opportunities for new staff.
“Both women are shining members of their local communities and make us all proud to be Queenslanders,” Mrs Kiernan said.
Mr Pitt said the awards provided an opportunity for the State Government to thank and recognise community-minded Queenslanders.
