Minister for Transport, Trade, Employment and Industrial Relations
The Honourable John Mickel
A Queensland company has found global success exporting unique olive leaf products to Korea’s burgeoning natural medicine and equine industries.
Coominya-based company Olive Leaf Australia has tripled its already significant health supplement exports to Korea in the last 12 months. The company’s Olive Leaf Extract is predominantly for use by natural medicine practitioners and their patients, but is also becoming popular as an ingredient in tonics for Korean race-horses.
Minister for Trade John Mickel said that Olive Leaf Australia, with assistance from Trade Queensland, the Government’s export agency, formed an alliance with a Korean pharmaceutical company in 2006. This alliance has resulted in unprecedented export sales to the market.
“Following human clinical studies of the product in Seoul, thoroughbred racing industry leaders in Korea have adopted the Queensland olive leaf product as a supplement for a growing number of top race horses,” Mr Mickel said.
“Queensland is becoming a well-recognised supplier to the Korean equine industry. Since 2003, Korean buyers have purchased 498 horses valued at over $11 million at Queensland’s Gold Coast Magic Millions Sales. The success of the Olive Leaf Extract supplement in this market adds to Queensland’s market presence.
“Olive Leaf Australia has developed its fresh olive leaf extraction process over 10 years. It’s based on extensive research into the olive tree’s healing properties and the company is now reaping the benefits of their efforts,” Mr Mickel said.
“Olive Leaf Australia’s unique EnvirOléa® olive leaf extract has a wide variety of uses including natural supplements and complementary medicines for human and veterinary use, and as an active ingredient in cosmetics, body care products, functional foods and beverages.
“It is indeed an adaptable product that is proving its worth both in Australia and on the Korean export market. I congratulate Olive Leaf Australia’s owners on their achievements,” Mr Mickel said.
Olive Leaf Australia was a winner of the Agribusiness and Emerging Exporter Awards in the Ipswich Regional section of the Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards in 2006.
