The Honourable Anna Bligh

Mackay’s top crime fighters recognised for years of service

Members of the Queensland Police Service have been recognised today for years of dedicated service, during a ceremony at the Community Cabinet held in Mackay today.

Premier Anna Bligh and Police Minister Spence joined with Acting Commissioner Kathy Rynders to present Queensland Police Medals for 10 years of diligent and ethical service to five officers from the Mackay district.

The medal recipients have performed duties in a range of areas with the QPS, including: General Duties, Communications, Crime Prevention, Child Protection Investigation Unit, Domestic Violence Resource Service, Prosecutions and the Education and Training Unit.

Ms Bligh said: “Together, these men and women represent more than half a century of policing experience in Queensland, as well as interstate service.

“Their professionalism and experience gained through long and dedicated years of service is gratefully acknowledged.

“The communities these men and women work in can take comfort in the fact their local officers and staff have such a great understanding of policing – and are well equipped to protect the community.”

Ms Spence said the medal recipients are an example of the calibre of men and women serving in the Queensland Police Service.

“In Queensland, we have one of the best police services in the world – and the value of this organisation lies in its employees,” Ms Spence said.

“These officers have each achieved a lot during their years of service and made a difference in the communities they have served.

“For example, Senior Sergeant Noela Dickinson, who in 2007 as the District Domestic Violence coordinator lead her team to win the Department of Communities ‘Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Award’. She has spent all of her 11 years service with the QPS serving in Mackay, following 12 years with the Northern Territory police working in the drug squad and within indigenous communities.

“And Sergeant Neville Cox has been the Officer in Charge of Mackay prosecutions for the past 7 years of his 10 years service. Before he joined the QPS, Sergeant Cox performed 25 years service with the South Australia Police where he was a motorcycle officer for almost 20 years.

“These officers have made outstanding contributions to this state – and it is a pleasure to have the opportunity to recognise their years of service.”
