Minister for Police, Corrective Services and Sport
The Honourable Judy Spence

Police Minister Judy Spence and Member for Logan, John Mickel, today announced the winning tender for the new Crestmead/ Marsden Police Station.

Ms Spence said: “James Trowse Construction Pty Ltd has been awarded the tender to build this new state-of-the-art facility that will ensure police in this area are well resourced to protect the community and fight crime.

“The Queensland Government is investing $6.1 million to establish the new station, which will provide a huge boost for police in this area.

“In 2006 the Queensland Government made a commitment to deliver this station to the residents of this electorate, and I’m pleased to see this important project taking shape.

“Our 2006 Election commitment also included the creation of a new division within the Logan Police District to better service the area’s growing population.

“The new division will become operational once this station is up and running.”

Minister Mickel welcomed progress on the major project in his electorate.

“This new facility will serve the growing community of the Crestmead, Marsden and Loganlea areas, ensuring they can feel safe and secure.

“The police station will be a 24-hour police station that will deal with general duties, whilst also housing a number of special divisions.

“There will be a Traffic Branch, Criminal Investigation Branch, and a major incident room that will all work towards protecting our local community.

“It will include a Child Protection and Investigation Unit (CPIU), including a CPIU home look-alike room for interviewing children that will provide them with a more comfortable environment in which to be interviewed.

“Electronic interview rooms and two holding cells will also be included in the station when it is completed.”

Ms Spence said James Trowse Construction Pty Ltd will commence construction as soon as practicable, with the project expected to be completed by mid-2009.
