MAINTENANCE FUNDING FOR RATHDOWNEY AND HILLVIEW SCHOOLS

More than $12,000 in special maintenance funding has been allocated to projects at Rathdowney and Hillview State Schools, Public Works Minister Robert Schwarten announced today.

Mr Schwarten said a recent inspection of the schools by QBuild officers identified the need for the work.

“At Rathdowney, the galvanised water line to the Toilet Block will be replaced," Mr Schwarten said

"The steel stirrups on the base of the support posts to the Main Teaching Block at Hillview will be replaced.”

“I am delighted that funding from the Department of Public Works’ emergency maintenance fund is available to enable these projects to be completed.

“The work will be completed as soon as possible with every effort being made to minimise disruption to classes.”

Mr Schwarten said the funding demonstrated the Bligh Government’s commitment to properly maintaining public infrastructure for the benefit of the community.

“The emergency maintenance fund was developed to complement existing maintenance programs and specifically to undertake projects that arose in the course of the year or that were unable to be completed by the school because of the magnitude of the cost,” he said.

“QBuild, the State Government’s construction and maintenance division, will manage the projects.
