The Honourable Desley Boyle
Fortitude Valley store The Tribune Brisbane is helping emerging local designers by stocking their gear and featuring them on the catwalk at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival.
The Tribune Brisbane will feature local designers in the Queensland Government Design Innovation Group Show tonight at 9pm at the Hilton, Brisbane.
Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry Desley Boyle said the concept store developed by the Jean Brown Group aimed to help Queensland's emerging talent break into the commercial fashion world.
“The Tribune Brisbane supports innovation and creation in the buying market by focusing on the importance of originality,” Ms Boyle said.
“The store has chosen numerous designers from a growing list of designers fresh out of local tertiary education institutions like the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE (MSIT).”
“It also helps to educate young designers about the business of fashion retailing, something that’s vital to their success.”
Jean Brown Group Director Amber Long is passionate about giving emerging designers the chance to showcase their work.
“We participated in MBFF in 2007 with our own Jean Brown show but it’s great to get The Tribune Brisbane involved in 2008 because it helps us actively support the fashion industry in Queensland,” Ms Long said.
“I was very excited when we were given the opportunity to showcase The Tribune’s local design talent, I have always wanted to propel our local designers further and the MBFF platform is the best way to do this.
“The festival is a great initiative, it’s the primary opportunity for Queensland designers and retailers to showcase their collections in a sophisticated environment.”
“The Tribune’s culture of embracing original design demonstrates how innovative the design aesthetic is in Queensland.
“We would also love to cement The Tribune’s role as a local design advocate and promote the robust retail opportunities on offer to other upcoming designers.”
“We believed our fresh faces would benefit the most from the MBFF experience including Heather McDonough, Christine Thorley, Amelia Duncombe and Krista Hochwallner.”
Ms Boyle added designers featuring in the Queensland Government Design Innovation Group Show were chosen from an open application process.
“The designers picked were chosen for their label’s youthful appeal and design innovation,” Ms Boyle said.
“Tickets for the show are $26.50 and available from QTIX 136 246.
