The Honourable Desley Boyle
Young Goondiwindi designer taking the fashion world by storm
Award winning innovative Goondiwindi-based designer Tia Carrigan will be debuting her much anticipated collection at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival (MBFF).
Tia will showcase at MBFF in the Queensland Government Design Innovation Group Show tonight at 9pm at the Hilton, Brisbane.
Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry Desley Boyle said Tia was a successful regional Queensland designer making inroads into the fashion scene.
“Tia is unique in that her label integrates Australian natural fibres and home-grown initiative and innovation,” Ms Boyle said.
“Tia designs clothes for women of many shapes and sizes, and specialises in maternity wear that’s comfortable, confident and unique in style.
“Her label caters for the everyday woman,” she said.
Twenty-four-year-old Tia said she was surprised to be picked to showcase her label at the event and was excited by the opportunity.
“The event will provide great exposure to not only my brand and also my community showing them someone from who is from and still works in the bush can make it in the mainstream,” she said.
“This will be a great stepping stone for my career as it will allow me to network with potential customers, retailers and the influential players in the industry.”
Ms Boyle said Tia was building her exclusive clothing business in an abandoned rural church hall near the Queensland border town of Goondiwindi.
“A fifth generation woolgrower, Tia has incorporated rural life with her creative passion and business initiative to develop the clothing label tia carrigan.”
Influenced by her rural upbringing and close ties with her family property Tia said her aim was to educate consumers about wool’s luxurious properties.
“Wool is not my only focus, using local labour and promoting rural industries are also integral to the label – creating clothing for the ever-increasing environmentally aware consumer.”
Ms Boyle added designers featuring in the Queensland Government Design Innovation Group Show were chosen from an open application process.
“The designers picked were chosen for their label’s youthful appeal and design innovation,” Ms Boyle said.
“Tia Carrigan is a young woman who understands how to design for a woman’s body. Her designs are versatile, relaxed and her use of natural fibres has won her numerous design awards.”
Tickets for the show are $26.50 and available from QTIX 136 246.
