Belmont/Chandler on Bligh Cabinet agenda

Reinforcing the State Government’s commitment to southern Brisbane has the Bligh Cabinet heading to the Belmont/Chandler region.

Premier Anna Bligh, her Cabinet and all the State’s top public servants will be mid-next month be in the Belmont/Chandler area for a two-day Community Cabinet (Sun 14 Sept & 15 Sept).

“It’s about listening and keeping in touch. It’s about hearing what locals have to say, on their turf and on their terms,” said the Premier.

“Local MPs Chris Bombolas (Chatsworth), Phil Reeves (Mansfield), Pat Purcell (Bulimba) and Gary Fenlon (Greenslopes) are joining with me in urging locals to come along and have their say.

“It is the ideal opportunity for individuals, groups and organisations to put their issues and concerns to me, my ministers and the Department Directors-General,” she said.

Mr Bombolas said it was a coup to have the Cabinet and department D-Gs all in the region at the one time.

“These two days are the best opportunity for local residents to raise issues one-on-one with the State’s key decision-makers,” he said.

Mr Reeves said that the Sunday Community Forum would be held at the Belmont State School, Old Cleveland Road, Carindale.

Cabinet will meet on Monday at the Sleeman Sports Complex, Cnr Old Cleveland and Tilley Roads Chandler.

A new addition to Community Cabinet programs this year has Parliamentary Secretaries and Government representatives available for deputation and meetings on the Monday morning while Cabinet meets.

On this occasion they will also be at Chandler between 9.00am and 11.00am at the Sleeman Sports Complex.

“These two-day gatherings – be they at Belmont or TI - are important to me and my Cabinet and the State’s key decision-makers.

“We want to hear first-hand issues of concern. Everyone’s welcome. Come along and have your,” she said.
