Scenic Rim Regional Council receives $1.3 million in disaster funding
Scenic Rim Regional Council will receive more than $1.3 million in funding to repair its damaged road network that occurred as the result of flooding in December 2007 and January 2008.
Local Government Minister Warren Pitt said the council’s road network had received significant damage due to subsidence caused by floodwaters.
“The flooding that occurred in the Scenic Rim Regional Council has caused a lot of damage to the local road network,” Mr Pitt said.
“The reliance on local roads by regional communities means that this damage has a great impact on the area’s accessibility and transport.
“Ratepayers would have been disadvantaged by the financial burden of this natural disaster if Scenic Rim Regional Council was required to foot the bill.”
“As a result, the State and Commonwealth governments have contributed $1,374,852, with the regional council contributing $285,000 towards the repair work.”
Mr Pitt said the funding was provided through the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements program, a joint State and Commonwealth initiative.
