Quilpie Shire Council receives $3 million in disaster funding

Quilpie Shire Council will receive more than $3 million in funding to repair its damaged road network that occurred as the result of monsoonal flooding in January this year.

Local Government Minister Warren Pitt said the council’s road network had received considerable subsidence damage due to floodwaters.

“The flooding that occurred in the Quilpie Shire Council has caused significant damage to the local road network,” Mr Pitt said.

“The reliance on local roads by regional communities means that this damage has a great impact on the area’s accessibility and transport.”

“Ratepayers would have been disadvantaged if Quilpie Shire Council was required shoulder the financial burden of this natural disaster.”

“As a result, the State and Commonwealth governments have contributed $3,162,189, with the shire council contributing $50,000 towards the repair work.”

Mr Pitt said the funding was provided through the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements program, a joint State and Commonwealth initiative.
