Saudi Engineers to train with Aviation Australia in Queensland

Brisbane-based Aviation Australia will deliver helicopter aircraft maintenance engineer training for 80 technicians from Saudi Arabia, with the first 21 students having commenced training in Queensland last week.

Minister for Trade John Mickel said today that it had been a busy first week for the initial student intake who took their first lessons on Monday 11 August and are undertaking a 36-month full diploma program, of which 33 months will be conducted at the Aviation Australia campus at Brisbane Airport.

“Aviation Australia has recently signed an agreement with the General Civil Defence Administration of Saudi Arabia (GCDA) to provide this highly specialised training,” Mr Mickel said.

“The training program is especially tailored for the customer and includes a comprehensive English language training course specifically developed for aviation personnel, and an Australian Diploma of Aircraft Maintenance Engineering.

“After returning to Saudi Arabia the technicians will undertake further specialist training to maintain the Civil Defence Administration’s new fleet of Sikorsky S76D and S92 helicopters,” Mr Mickel said.

Aviation Australia CEO Paul Bredereck said that the company’s training and facilities are world-class and that he is confident Saudi students will be well-equipped for the work force once they have completed the tailored engineering training.

“The program has been specifically designed to align with the latest European Aviation Safety Agency Part 66 B1.3 licence standards for turbine helicopters, which is a first for any Australia program,” Mr Bredereck said.

“Aviation Australia was the first non-European organisation to hold EASA Part 147 approval to deliver the full suite of basic aircraft engineering qualifications which is now the internationally recognised standard.

“Our recognition as a world leader in aviation training and services has helped to secure this relationship with the GCDA. We look forward to providing a sustainable long term solution to their training requirements.

“We worked closely with Trade Queensland’s office in Riyadh to provide a local point of contact for our customers. The training contract we have signed with GCDA clearly illustrates that opportunities for trade with Saudi Arabia can be accessed with Trade Queensland’s assistance,” he said.

A number of world class airlines based in both the Middle East and the Asia Pacific region including Etihad Airways, Emirates Airlines, Gulf Air and Cathay Pacific Airways have elected to send their aircraft maintenance engineer trainees to study with Aviation Australia.

Aviation Australia was founded in 2001 by the Queensland State Government with the cooperation of major airlines, aerospace companies and universities.
