Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt
$2 million overhaul for busy Tuchekoi Road
Work will start this month on a $2 million project to widen and upgrade a 1.3km stretch of busy Tuchekoi Road, south of Gympie.
Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt today announced a contract for Fulton Hogan Pty Ltd to undertaken the upgrade between Coonoon Gibber Creek and Gympie-Brooloo Road.
"Data shows traffic on this important road is increasing by about five per cent each year, with more than 100 heavy vehicles using the route each day," Mr Pitt said.
"By upgrading and widening this stretch, Main Roads will make Tuchekoi Road more efficient for freight, and safer and smoother for all vehicles.
"Approximately 200 metres of Gympie-Brooloo Road, where it intersects with Tuchekoi Road, will also be rehabilitated and widened, making it stronger and more durable."
Mr Pitt said the Tuchekoi Road upgrade was one of a number of projects being undertaken in and around Gympie.
"Main Roads is committed to delivering a safe and efficient road network, which is why more than $50 million has been allocated to roadworks in the Gympie region over the next two years," Mr Pitt said.
Work on the Tuchekoi Road upgrade is expected to be finished in December 2008.
Motorists are urged to drive to posted speed limits and obey the directions of road signage and traffic controllers around roadworks.
