Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt
Finding a place to stop and unload will be easier for caravanners, with the locations of wastewater "dump sites" now available on the Main Roads website.
Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt said the sites – used by recreational vehicle users to dispose of their wastewater – were now published on Main Roads' website as part of an interactive map of Queensland.
"With growing numbers of people enjoying travelling in motorhomes and caravans, providing an easy and environmentally safe way to dispose of wastewater is more important than ever," Mr Pitt said.
"Main Roads has made finding these dump points easier by including their locations on an online interactive map of Queensland, which also includes locations of rest areas, driver reviver sites and scenic stops throughout the state.
"Best of all, by visiting the Main Roads website, motorists with navigational devices will be able to download these files for use with their GPS equipment."
Recreational vehicle users can visit www.mainroads.qld.gov.au for the interactive map and download files.
A list of current dump sites throughout Queensland is also available in Main Roads' Guide to Queensland Roads map and at the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia website, www.cmca.net.au.
Mr Pitt said Main Roads funding would help provide for more dump points across Queensland over the next two years.
Funding to the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia will provide for at least 22 new dump points around the state.
Under the dump point scheme, the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia provides local councils with specially designed polyethylene dump units that are placed in easy-to-access locations, including parks, rest areas and camping areas.
The units are free for all travellers to access and are connected to town sewage systems, so people do not have to dispose of their waste illegally or bury it in bushland.
