Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry
The Honourable Desley Boyle

New directory makes it easy to choose and use local ICT companies

A new “white pages” for Gold Coast information and communication technology (ICT) companies was launched yesterday by Regional Development and Industry Minister Desley Boyle at Griffith University.

The Gold Coast ICT Directory 2008 showcases the strengths and capabilities of 80 local companies.

“This is the “white pages” of Gold Coast ICT firms and its aim is to encourage local, interstate and international clients to ‘choose and use’ local companies,” Ms Boyle said.

“ICT is booming on the Gold Coast and this new directory will support the industry’s continued growth.

“The directory is a great way to profile and sell the diverse range of business solutions and innovative technologies that Gold Coast ICT companies can offer – very few businesses can be competitive in the 21st Century without embracing ICT.

“ICT and other enabling technologies have changed the way we learn, communicate, obtain information, purchase products and do business.

“They can improve efficiency and lower costs; increase a business’s understanding of clients, suppliers and partners; improve communications and help to facilitate a more mobile workforce.

“That means better customer service, access to new markets, growth and greater profits.”

Ms Boyle said that the directory was an initiative of the Department of Tourism, Regional Development and Industry’s Information Industries Bureau with support from the Gold Coast City Council, Griffith University, Bond University and IT Gold Coast.

“The Gold Coast ICT industry represents 14 per cent of Queensland’s ICT sector and employs more than 5,000 people full time,” Ms Boyle said.

“So if you are a Gold Coast enterprise looking to grow your business using ICT, you are seriously spoilt for choice when it comes to local ICT solutions.

“The directory profiles ICT firms specialising in a wide range of areas, from banking and general business software to marine, childcare, education, multimedia, emissions reduction, tourism, hospitality and retail.”

The Gold Coast ICT Directory is available from the Department of Tourism, Regional Development and Industry’s Gold Coast Centre by calling 5583 7599. It can also be ordered online at www.iib.qld.gov.au
