Fraser: Merger a step in the right direction

Queensland Treasurer and Racing Minister Andrew Fraser today welcomed news that members of the Brisbane Turf Club had voted to join forces with the Queensland Turf Club and move the Brisbane racing industry into an era of prosperity.

Mr Fraser said the fact that 81% of members voted to merge signified an overwhelming desire to create a united force in racing.

“This secures the future prosperity of racing at Eagle Farm and Doomben race courses and makes great financial and organisational sense.

“The fact that these two clubs will now merge means they can pool their financial resources and become one strong entity for metropolitan racing.

“I am pleased to see that good business sense and indeed commonsense has prevailed and believe the historic vote will benefit metropolitan racing.

Mr Fraser said the merger had always been matter for the members of both clubs to determine.
