The Honourable Rod Welford
Students get active with ENERGEX Move-a-thon
All Queensland school students from Prep to Year 7 are getting up and moving with the ENERGEX Move-a-thon during Term Three.
Education and Training Minister Rod Welford said each student was receiving an ENERGEX Move-a-thon poster from their school to enable participation in the six-week program.
“To get involved, students fill out the spaces on the poster with all the physical activity they do outside school of hours for six weeks,” Mr Welford said.
“Whether they walk to school, ride a bike or take part in team sports outside of school hours, it all counts.
“The ENERGEX Move-a-thon is part of the Year of Physical Activity.
“I created this year to reinforce the message that physically active students are healthier and can perform better at school.”
Mr Welford said state primary school students were already getting 30 minutes of physical exercise every day at school with the implementation of Smart Moves into the curriculum.
“The ENERGEX Move-a-thon will encourage students to continue their activity outside of school hours,” he said.
“Kids love to be active and they will get a fantastic sense of achievement at the end of the ENERGEX Move-a-thon when they realise just how active they have been and how much fun they had doing it.”
Mr Welford said classes which achieved 100 percent participation would go into the draw for some great prizes.
“Your class could win a trip to Dreamworld, an MP3 Player and speaker dock, or signed sporting memorabilia,” he said. “So I encourage everyone to get involved in this fantastic initiative.”
Major Prize Draw:
• Travel to Brisbane including overnight accommodation at Paradise Resort, Gold Coast with free entry to Dreamworld for one school-class, teacher and carers.
More Prizes:
• Centenary Test jersey signed by the Kangaroos
• MP3 player, speakers and music download card for your class
