The Honourable Rod Welford
BIFF in the Burbs returns in 2008 with more family fun
South east Queenslanders will be treated to high-quality cinema in their local parks and sports fields with the return of free outdoor movie screenings as part of the St.George Bank Brisbane International Film Festival (BIFF).
Arts Minister Rod Welford said BIFF in the Burbs, now in its third year, would take family-friendly films to 12 locations across south east Queensland from Friday 15 August.
“BIFF in the Burbs brings the Brisbane International Film Festival into the community, with screenings scheduled on the Sunshine Coast, the Gold Coast and suburbs around Brisbane,” Mr Welford said.
“It’s an ideal way to introduce families to quality cinema and give them a taste of what the film festival is all about.
“This year BIFF in the Burbs will showcase family favourites from Disney Pixar – including Finding Nemo, Cars and Ratatouille – alongside an international short film.”
Mr Welford said this year’s events would also feature a carnival atmosphere, complete with free popcorn, face painting and activities for children.
“BIFF in the Burbs will be a great night out with family and friends and I encourage everyone to attend,” he said.
“Just remember to bring along a picnic rug and a jumper to keep warm during the movie.”
BIFF in the Burbs screenings, sponsored by Stockland and supported by St.George Bank, will be held every Friday and Saturday night from 5.30pm between 15 August and 20 September.
The BIFF ticketed program runs from 31 July to 10 August. Further information about BIFF in the Burbs and the BIFF ticketed program is available at www.stgeorgebiff.com.au
