Minister for Emergency Services
The Honourable Neil Roberts
Three new Assistant Commissioners have been appointed to the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS).
Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts and QAS Commissioner David Melville said the new Assistant Commissioners Peter Cahill, Gavin Trembath and Christopher Broomfield will take up their roles in Far Northern Region (Cairns), South Western Region (Toowoomba) and the Central Region (Rockhampton) of Queensland respectively.
Mr Cahill is the current Acting Assistant Commissioner, Far Northern Region, and he will take up the role permanently.
Mr Trembath, the acting Regional Communications Manager for South East Region, takes up the Assistant Commissioner post at South West Region currently held by Leo McNamara.
Mr McNamara will transfer to the position of Assistant Commissioner Brisbane Region.
Current Brisbane Area Director Christopher Broomfield will become Assistant Commissioner for Central Region.
Mr Roberts said the three new appointees boasted a wealth of experience which will see the QAS continue to provide the community with the highest level of patient care.
“These officers are highly skilled, dedicated and well respected among their peers. Between them they have more than 60 years’ experience as ambulance officers in both the field and in management roles,” Mr Roberts said.
“Such a high level of experience demonstrates the strength of the QAS."
“Queensland residents can be confident that with these officers at the helm, the needs of the community will continue to be met now and into the future.”
Mr Melville welcomed the appointments.
“The Queensland Ambulance Service has some of the best and brightest paramedics in our ranks. It is with great pleasure that I welcome these gentlemen to their roles as Assistant Commissioners,” Mr Melville said.
“Peter Cahill has 17 years’ experience in operational delivery and received a special commendation for his outstanding leadership in the Cyclone Larry relief effort in 2006.”
“Christopher Broomfield has been with the service for 27 years. His qualifications and skills have seen him work in a cross section of roles including rosters management, patient transport management and as a training officer.”
“Gavin Trembath started his career with QAS in Townsville 17 years ago. In 2004, Gavin was recognised with an Australia Day Achievement Medallion for his outstanding contribution to clinical care and multi-casualty response planning.”
“Leo McNamara has some 31 years’ experience with the service, starting his career as an air and road paramedic in Rockhampton.”
