Connecting Toowoomba businesses with export opportunities
Trade networking event explores initiatives set to connect Toowoomba businesses with international export opportunities.
Local MP, the Hon Kerry Shine MP said that a Global Connect event being held in Toowoomba on Wednesday 30 July is part of a state-wide event program that will link businesses with Trade Queensland, the Government’s export agency, and its suite of services delivered across Queensland and in 13 international locations.
“Exporting is a vital contributor to Queensland's economy, with merchandise exports last year worth more than $35.4 billion,” Mr Shine said.
“Service exports from Queensland were worth a further $7.79 billion in 2006-07.
“The Global Connect initiative will enable more businesses in the Toowoomba area to explore exporting with our experts.
“Businesses will hear first-hand from Trade Queensland Special Representative, Steve Bredhauer, industry experts and export advisers, as well as a speaker from a local exporting business,” Mr Shine said.
“Export advisors will be on hand to provide assistance to potential new exporters and businesses that are already exporting but want to investigate new overseas markets for the goods and services they have on offer.
“Trade Queensland’s market specialists, with export insights into the East Asia and other key markets, will provide an update for local companies on current and emerging international export opportunities.
“Peter Courtney the Business Manager for successful local exporting business, Russell Mineral Equipment, will share information on RME’s business, export strategies and experiences.
“RME was established in Toowoomba in 1987 and has an international reputation for producing practical, quality, specialist equipment to mining industries around the world,” Mr Shine said.
Businesses will also have the opportunity to register for the 2008 Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards. Minister for Trade John Mickel said that the Export Awards program was a great way to highlight the vital role of exports in maintaining a healthy Queensland business sector, economy and community.
“The Export Awards provide the Queensland community with an opportunity to celebrate our State’s success stories and really showcase our leading export businesses,” Mr Mickel said.
