Ban Extinguishes Danger on Fiery Hacky-Sack

The Bligh Government has introduced an 18-month ban on a hacky-sack style toy which is designed to be set on fire and kicked around.

Acting Attorney-General and Minister for Justice John Mickel said the Government imposed an interim ban in June on the sale of the ‘fire foot bag’ and had now introduced the longer ban because it poses a significant risk to consumers.

“This ban stops the supply of the fire foot bag to people who are not using it for professional entertainment purposes or street performances, and would help ensure only trained professionals are using the foot bag,” Mr Mickel said.

“I am told the product is in limited supply, but I am warning parents to ensure their children don’t have access to these products,” he said.

“The old saying ‘don’t try this at home’ applies here and fire foot bags like this are not suitable for use as toys.

“If you already have one of these products or a similar one I encourage you to get rid of it immediately.

“It’s simply not worth the risk of serious burns if you’re not a trained performer or circus entertainer.”
