New York Bagels selling Queensland organic meatballs in Taiwan

A Queensland company producing organic beef for the world market is finding sales success in Taiwan.

Minister for Trade John Mickel said today that OBE Beef had recently sealed a deal to have its organic meatball product featured on the menu of well-known Taiwanese restaurant chain, New York Bagels Cafe.

“New York Bagels Cafe is currently trialling OBE Beef’s product on its menu as a major ingredient in a new dish, Organic Meatballs with Red Sauce over Linguine,” Mr Mickel said.

“This follows assistance from the Queensland Government’s export agency, Trade Queensland which introduced OBE Beef to this new Taiwanese customer.

“Early feedback has been positive, with New York Bagels Cafe now indicating their interest in including OBE Beef organic meatballs as a menu item in their New York Pizza Kitchen, scheduled to open in Taipei next month (August 2008).

“I sincerely congratulate OBE Beef on their latest exporting success in Taiwan and I hope to hear of their meatballs topping a Taiwanese organic meat-lover’s pizza in the near future,” Mr Mickel said.

OBE Beef Marketing Manager, Dalene Brook said the company had become extremely popular in the Taiwanese market after exporting organic beef cuts for many years.

“OBE Beef takes a proactive approach to the Taiwan market,” Ms Brook said.

“We ran a pioneering tour there in December 2007, taking a group of women farmers to the island as well as Hong Kong to meet with importers, distributors, supermarkets and other key market players to see first hand how the supply chain works - from paddock to plate.

“Our organic meatball product has been developed to provide restaurants and cafes as well as the general public with the opportunity to enjoy certified organic value-added beef products.

“Organic products currently represent a small but growing sector in the Taiwan market, and offer a point of difference for us in the competitive food service industry,” she said.

OBE Beef Pty Ltd is 100% owned and operated by Australian organic farmers committed to the provision of high quality organic food products. The company has embraced the worldwide demand for organic products and has been exporting since 1998.
