Gold Coast TAFE Board appointments announced
Education and Training Minister Rod Welford today announced the appointment of members to the new Board of the Gold Coast Institute of TAFE.
Mr Welford said Gold Coast Institute of TAFE commenced operating as a statutory TAFE institute from 1 July 2008 and the appointments completed the institute’s transition to commercial governance arrangements.
“The Board members will focus on building relationships with key industries as part of the institute’s commitment to addressing skills shortages and growing the commercial component of their business,” Mr Welford said.
“Members of the new Board bring with them a wealth of knowledge and experience in a range of industries including education, business, engineering, hospitality, health and community services.
“Their business connections in the Gold Coast region and beyond will strengthen alliances with key industry stakeholders.
“They will play an integral role in the Institute’s vision to produce highly skilled graduates who make a difference.
“The Board will also have a significant role to play in setting the strategic direction of the institute and ensuring that it meets its statutory obligations.”
Mr John Giles, who has an extensive career in business and strategic planning, economic analysis and urban and regional development has been appointed as Chair of the Board.
Other members of the eleven-person board include:
- Business and strategic planning and community specialist Paul Stevens
- Education industry and community expert Phil Gray, MP (Member for Gaven)
- Public accounting, financial planning and business advisor Richard Munro
- Management development and International marketing and corporate governance specialist Dr Garry Luxmoore
- Global research and development strategist Karyn Joyner
- Engineering and electrical industry specialist Richard Flanagan
- Business law and community engagement specialist Kellie Trigger
- Chartered Accountant, business growth expert and corporate strategist Debbie Crowther
- Corporate and government strategist and consultant Adrienne Ward
- Business owner, management and board governance expert Trina Hockley.
Gold Coast Institute of TAFE is the second statutory institute in Queensland’s TAFE network to take advantage of reforms made in 2007 to the Vocational Education, Training and Employment Act 2000.
