Pearce to remain on leave: Bligh

Member for Fitzroy Jim Pearce will remain on extended sick leave, Premier Anna Bligh told State Parliament today.

Mr Pearce is undergoing medical treatment for serious depression and anxiety.

“The Member for Fitzroy - a 19-year Member of Parliament - remains unwell.

“I have received further advice that Jim is not yet well enough to return to work or make any public statements,” said the Premier.

“I thank all for their support as Jim’s recovery continues and again ask that he be afforded privacy in this tough time.”

“The Member for Rockhampton Robert Schwarten will continue to shadow the Fitzroy Electorate while Jim’s treatment and recovery continues.

“As well my own Parliamentary Secretary, Member for Mansfield Phil Reeves will continue to assist when and where needed.”

“Should anyone want to extend their wishes to Jim or to inquire into his well-being Phil remains the best contact and is happy to be the conduit.”

The Premier said Mr Pearce’s sick leave had been extended for a further three months.
