PROJECT CAIRNS: State Govt releases first ever list of local infrastructure projects

Member for Cairns and Minister Regional Development Desley Boyle today released Project Cairns, a document which identifies all major infrastructure projects occurring in Cairns and the region, including Bruce Highway works and major upgrades to the Cairns Base Hospital.

Ms Boyle said the important publication was the first ever comprehensive list covering all levels of government and the private sector.

“This new project is a response by the State Government to support issues raised in a special economic diversification meeting I called last month,” she said.

“It will enable locals to identify business and job opportunities, and it will be used as a guide to what infrastructure projects are already happening and what are planned.

“I had originally thought, due to difficulties in tourism, that we may need to bring forward infrastructure projects to keep the region happening.

“But now that I see the list compiled I can see that we already have a busy agenda.

“As this is the first time such a list has been published it may not include all the projects, particularly private sector projects, which are committed or being planned.

“Therefore any further relevant information about these or other projects should be forwarded to the Cairns office of the Department of Tourism, Regional Development and Industry,” she said.

Project Cairns is available from the Cairns office of the Department of Tourism, Regional Development and Industry, Ground Floor, Cairns Port Authority Building, cnr Grafton and Hartley Street. Tel: 4048 1111.
