Disability conference to strengthen shared visions

Disability Services Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr has today announced a Shared Visions State conference will be held in Brisbane on April 2-3 next year.

“First started in 2005, the Shared Visions program alternates between a big State conference one year, followed by a series of regional seminars the next,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.

“These forums are important because they bring together representatives from across the disability sector to work together in partnership towards a better future for people with a disability, their families and carers,” she said.

“Next year I will be hosting the conference which will feature presentations from academic experts, community-based mental health organisations and many others to ensure a wide range of interests are discussed.”

Ms Nelson-Carr said the Shared Visions program encourages information gathering and collaboration at the State level as well as between the regions, with more than 400 delegates coming to Brisbane from across Queensland.

“The program will provide an opportunity to share experiences, and link people and organisations more closely together,” she said.

“Next year’s program will take into account themes from previous conferences and forums, as well as other emerging issues of importance for the disability sector, such as social inclusion and reforms in service provision.

“Over the past three years, we have seen the integration of ideas, core values and issues – and I look forward to building on this shared vision at the next conference.”
