The Honourable Lindy Nelson-Carr
Final countdown: Stars set to ‘roar against racism’ at Suncorp Stadium
International football superstars, sporting legends, a host of celebrities, business representatives and community leaders will line up at Suncorp Stadium today to ‘red card’ racism, as part of the Queensland Roars Against Racism campaign.
Communities and Multicultural Affairs Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr said the jam-packed event would feature an international friendly game between the Queensland Roar and the legendary Palmeiras football team from Brazil.
“This friendly match is part of the Queensland Government’s ‘Roars against Racism’ campaign,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.
“It is about all of us taking a stance and saying no to racist behaviour and attitudes while at the same time enjoying some first class sporting entertainment.
“As we have seen just this week with the incident surrounding Petro Civonceva there are a small minority who seek to use racist behaviour at sporting events.
“The Roars against Racism campaign sends a clear message these sort of behaviours will not be tolerated
“Gates open at 5pm to a carnival-style atmosphere on the public concourse and what’s set to be a hugely entertaining star-studded celebrity showdown kicking-off the on-field action from 5.15pm with the main game set to start at 7pm.”
Tickets are available via Ticketek on 132 849, at Ticketek outlets or online at www.ticketek.com.au Family tickets (two adults and two children) start at $38.
