Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt
Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt and Member for Ipswich West Wayne Wendt have invited the community to get involved and help improve safety at a key Blacksoil intersection.
Mr Pitt said the community had an important role to play in shaping improvements to the intersection of the Warrego and Brisbane Valley highways and the Wulkuraka Connection Road.
A preliminary design for the improvements was released this month.
“We encourage all community members to get involved and provide feedback before 18 July,” Mr Wendt said.
“Flyers detailing the proposed upgrade are being distributed to local residents, businesses and key stakeholders and an advertisement will be placed in the local newspaper.
“A key feature of the proposed upgrade is to improve safety by banning the right-turn lane from the Warrego Highway westbound into the northbound Wulkuraka Connection Road.
“The right-turn lane from the Warrego Highway westbound to the Brisbane Valley Highway will also be extended.”
The $350,000 safety upgrade is expected to start early in 2009 and is a short-term solution ahead of a planned long-term upgrade. A preferred option for the long-term upgrade was released in May.
"Safety concerns for this intersection have made these improvements a key priority for the government,” Mr Wendt said.
“The preferred option for the long-term upgrade will further improve safety by elevating and separating the Warrego Highway from the Brisbane Valley Highway and Wulkuraka Connection road intersection.
“The work will also address congestion issues and deliver a solution that will improve safety and accessibility for the community as well as ensure fast and safe travel for freight.”
