Minister for Communities, Disability Services, ATSIP, Multicultural Affairs, Seniors and Youth
The Honourable Lindy Nelson-Carr
Fresh faces on Australian South Sea Islander board
Three new members will join the Board of Advice for the Australian South Sea Islander Community Foundation (ASSI), bringing new ideas and a fresh perspective.
Communities and Multicultural Affairs Minister Lindy Nelson-Carr said the Foundation was established by the Queensland Government in 2001, to provide scholarship support to Australian South Sea Islanders undertaking tertiary studies.
“I am pleased to welcome three new members to the Board of Advice to assist in making important recommendations regarding the allocation of scholarships,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.
“Last year, three students in the ASSI Scholarship program graduated from universities throughout the State, taking the total of ASSI graduates to four.”
The new board members are Kristy Leo, Anne Tibaldi and Jill Lander. They join reappointed members Donald Fewquandie, Jeanette Morgan, Ian Kimber and Kathy Davis.
“Of the seven Board of Advice members there are four Australian South Sea Island community representatives and three from the tertiary and corporate sectors,” Ms Nelson-Carr said.
“ASSI scholarship recipient Kristy Leo, who graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing from James Cook University last year, will bring her own real experiences and insights to her new position on the board.
“The inclusion of CSR Limited Human Relations Manager Anne Tibaldi will also add a unique perspective to the Board of Advice.
“CSR Limited began supporting the foundation in 2007 and we value the professional advice and corporate sector experience that Anne will bring to the advisory committee.
“I’d like to welcome all new and returning Board of Advice Members and wish them every success in their two-year tenure.”
