FUNDING FOR BUNDABERG HOUSING ORGANISATION
Housing Minister Robert Schwarten today announced more than $500,000 in recurrent funding for Bundaberg Housing Services Inc to provide housing assistance for people with a severe and immediate housing need.
Mr Schwarten said the funding, from the Community Rent Scheme and Crisis Accommodation programs, was part of the record $759 million housing assistance package contained in the recent State Budget.
“This funding is great news for Bundaberg Housing Services as it will allow it to continue the important service that they provide,” Mr Schwarten said
“It will receive $480,000 in Community Rent Scheme funding and more than $20,000 in Crisis Accommodation Program funding.”
“Bundaberg Housing Services is one of 52 housing providers across the State sharing in more than $2.2 million in Crisis Accommodation Program funding and one of 21 organisations sharing in more than $13 million in Community Rent Scheme funding.”
Mr Schwarten said Crisis Accommodation Program grants enabled housing providers to utilise privately-leased properties to accommodate people who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, in crisis or in need of transitional support in the move to independent living.
The Community Rent Scheme provides subsidised accommodation for low-income households with a severe and immediate need with accommodation on a short to medium term basis.
“It is well-known that the housing market is in crisis with skyrocketing rents making it difficult for many low-income families to find place to live.
“Funding community organisations such as these is one way the Bligh Government is working to get a roof over the head of those experiencing housing difficulty.”
