Minister for Emergency Services
The Honourable Neil Roberts

Design of new Nambour fire station underway

Design work for $3.65 million replacement new fire and rescue station at Nambour is currently underway, Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts said.

Mr Roberts said the 2008-09 State Budget allocated $1.77 million for Nambour replacement station with construction due to start early next year.

“The Bligh Government is committed to building a state-of-the-art Queensland Fire and Rescue Service station at Nambour,” Mr Roberts said.

“The replacement station will be built on Bli Bli Road. The new facility will provide ample room for the QFRS to accommodate future needs.

“There are no current plans to change the service delivery in the region. However, in planning for the future needs of the south-east corner, QFRS has secured a strategic land purchase in the Sippy Downs areas. There are no current plans to build on the site,” Mr Roberts said.

“QFRS will continue to monitor service delivery to the area, population growth and increases in demand now and into the future.”

Mr Roberts said QFRS had responded to the population growth and increases in the Burpengary-Deception Bay-Narangba regions and it was establishing a new permanent station at Burpengary.

The new $3.25 million Queensland Fire and Rescue Station at Burpengary was due to be completed in September.

Staff for the new station have been recruited and they are currently servicing the area from the auxiliary station at Deception Bay.
