Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt
Have your say on rural lifestyle opportunities for women and children
Time is running out to attend the inaugural Queensland Government Rural Women’s Symposium, to be held in Roma on August 29.
Expressions of interest to attend the forum close 5pm Wednesday July 9, Local Government Minister Warren Pitt said today.
“The theme of the symposium is “Liveability – a woman’s view,” Mr Pitt said.
“We want to harness the enthusiasm of rural women and their families to help us meet the Government’s Blueprint for the Bush vision, and that is to build a sustainable, liveable and prosperous rural Queensland,” he said.
“The symposium will have a large cross-section of key stakeholder organisations providing input on the day, but we’ve also allocated around 40 positions to community delegates.
“Their role will be to represent the interests of rural women and to report back to their communities about the outcomes of the symposium.
“Given the importance of this event and the limited number of places available, I encourage all interested community members to submit an expression of interest by close of business tomorrow.”
Mr Pitt said the costs of community members attending the symposium would be covered by the Queensland Government.
“The key issues to be discussed on the day will come from regional consultation being conducted throughout the state with women living in rural communities.
“The symposium will provide an opportunity for the Government to formulate closer links with women and their families and to continue building a sense of confidence in rural and remote communities across Queensland.”
