The Honourable Anna Bligh
ONE-OFF PREMIER MAROON CHARITY JERSEY UP FOR GRABS
Bidding opens tonight for a unique signed 2008 Queensland State of Origin jersey, Queensland Premier Anna Bligh said today.
“Adding to its value this Maroon jersey will hang proudly in the New South Wales Premier’s Office until Christmas,” said Ms Bligh
“Enhancing its appeal Indigenous youth in remote communities will be the beneficiary from the Maroon jersey’s sale.
“This means an Origin follower can turn their enthusiasm to a good cause,” said the Premier.
Prior to the 2008 series both Premiers agreed to hang the winning State’s jersey in the losing Premier’s office until Christmas.
“Apart from being a winning 2008 Queensland team jersey this one has that added history – it is a collectors item,” said Ms Bligh.
As a one-off arrangement, with approval of both Queensland and New South Wales leagues, both signed Origin jerseys go on eBay.com.au tonight (Thursday).
Bidding is open for two weeks.
Beneficiaries of the auctions will be Indigenous youth.
The NSW Premier has chosen Wirringa Baiya, a service to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children who are victims of violence and Ms Bligh FOGS [Queensland Former Origin Greats] – specifically for FOGs efforts with Indigenous youth in remote communities.
“I have chosen FOGS to recognise and continue the works of Origin legend and FOG’s chairman Dick ‘Tosser’ Turner who died last month,” said Ms Bligh.
*It is tagged and identified as an authentic QRL 2008 State of Origin Jersey.
