Gold Coast Airport Marathon eclipses 20,000
The Gold Coast Airport Marathon is now officially the largest marathon event ever held in Australia, Premier Anna Bligh said today.
The 30th annual Gold Coast Airport Marathon has surpassed all records and expectations with over 20,000 participants registering already to participate in the event this Sunday.
“With registrations open until 5pm on Saturday (5 July) we know that the Gold Coast Airport Marathon is now officially the largest marathon event ever held in Australia.
“This is fantastic news for the Gold Coast and Queensland.
“Not only is this the biggest marathon event in Australia, but it proves that Queensland is the place to be for major events,” said Ms Bligh.
“Like everyone else, I will be lining up to participate in this great Queensland event this weekend and I encourage everyone to come along and experience the excitement that a race like this brings.”
Registrations for the Gold Coast Airport Marathon can only be made in person at the Registrations Centre in the Asics Sport and Leisure Expo at the Race Precinct, Broadwater Events Parkland, Southport.
The Registrations Centre will be open from Thursday 3 July from 5-8pm, Friday 4 July from 8am-6pm, and Saturday 5 July from 8am-5pm.
In 2007, the Gold Coast Airport Marathon attracted 16,172 entries.
