Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry
The Honourable Desley Boyle
HOT HOT HOT – award winning Qld architecture on display at GoMA
Queensland’s most talented architects will have their award-winning designs on display at GoMA next month (August 2) as part of the Smart State’s three year Creative Industries HEAT initiative.
Tourism and Industry Minister Desley Boyle said Place Makers: Contemporary Queensland Architects at the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA) was part of the Queensland Government’s HEAT initiative – an ongoing campaign to market the State’s hot new wave of dynamic, energetic architectural talent.
“The Place Makers exhibition is sure to attract record crowds – the architecture on display will highlight our talented architects’ abilities for creating sustainable design,” she said.
“Their designs for tropical and sub-tropical climates show they have embraced the challenges of climate change and this is something we really want to push overseas.
“The HEAT campaign is an ongoing campaign to market our strengths throughout Asia, Europe and America.”
Ms Boyle said the HEAT initiative, including the GoMA exhibition which was sponsored by the Queensland Government, provides an excellent example of the diversity of environmentally-responsive architecture being produced in the Smart State.
“It also celebrates recent award-winning public buildings and highlights their capacity to create important social spaces within urban centres,” she said.
“This is central to the Premier’s commitment to Smart State 3’s Designing Queensland program, in which great design is integrated into all aspects of contemporary Queensland’s social and business structures.
“This is another fantastic selling point overseas as many countries are also grappling with problems arising from the impact of rapid urbanisation on communities.”
Ms Boyle said the HEAT initiative also featured a glossy “working” manual which would be used as a selling tool for the Queensland Government’s overseas trade commissioners.
“This exciting publication really tells Queensland’s environmental architecture story,” she said.
“This will include what we’re doing in environmentally responsive design, how we’re developing a great reputation in sustainability, our collaborative projects with international clients and allied industries, our response to rapid urbanisation and our high quality control for setting new international standards.”
