The Honourable Anna Bligh
Office decor and charity a winner in Premiers Origin scrap
Premier Anna Bligh is sure a Queensland win tonight will help decorate her New South Wales counterpart Morris Iemma’s office – MAROON!
Ms Bligh will not hear of her office having a Blues jersey. “No way – Mal’s team will prevail and it will be Morris’ office - not mine - displaying the winners signed jersey – a maroon one,” she said.
While both Premiers are adamant their respective teams will win, they are keeping with tradition with a side wager on the series – but this time charity’s a winner too.
As a one-off arrangement, with approval of both Queensland and New South Wales leagues, both signed Origin jerseys will go on eBay.com.au tomorrow (Thursday).
Bidding will be open for two weeks, however the new owner will not be able to claim the winning jersey until year’s end as the agreement is that it is to hang in the losing Premier’s Office until Christmas.
Both have agreed that the auction beneficiaries should be youth charities.
The NSW Premier has chosen Wirringa Baiya, a service to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children who are victims of violence and Ms Bligh FOGS [Queensland Former Origin Greats] – specifically for FOGs efforts with Indigenous youth in remote communities.
“This is also a great way to recognise and continue the works of Origin legend and FOG’s chairman Dick ‘Tosser’ Turner who died last month.
“As to the game - Cameron Smith and our boys will prove too good and the signed Maroon jersey will remain to sit proudly in Morris’ office.
“I’m asking Queenslanders to wear Maroon today to support our team.”
