Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt

Rosewood-Laidley Road safety improvement works

Main Roads is improving safety on the Rosewood-Laidley Road with the installation of additional signage and guardrail early this month (July).

Main Roads Minister Warren Pitt said $1 million had been allocated for the safety improvements as part of the Safer Roads Sooner program.

"Motorists and pedestrians in the local and wider community will benefit from these safety works as part of Main Roads' delivery of a stronger road network," Mr Pitt said.

"Improving safety on our roads is one of our biggest priorities and these safety works will have a major impact on the Rosewood-Laidley Road, which approximately 2,200 vehicles use daily."

The upgrade involves installing guardrail and improving signage along nearly 19km of the Rosewood-Laidley Road, from the roundabout at Rosewood-Marburg Road and Karrabin-Rosewood Road through to Doonans Road.

The improved signage includes installation of additional signs at key points along the road and the replacement of some existing signs.

Construction is scheduled to begin early July, with the majority of works planned between 8am and 3.30pm, Monday to Friday. Some night works will also take place between 9pm and 5am, Monday to Friday.

The project was funded through the $54 million Safer Roads Sooner package announced earlier this year.

The Safer Roads Sooner Program uses funding from red light and speed camera fines for vital road projects that target Queensland’s road toll.

"This is only a small part of the commitment we have made to improving road safety in the metropolitan area, with $14 million already spent on safety works in the 2007-08 financial year," Mr Pitt said.

With more and more road projects scheduled each year, Main Roads is committed to ensuring the community is informed about roadworks occurring in their local area.

Flyers notifying the community of the roadworks will be distributed to local residents and businesses in the area, and advertisements placed in local newspapers.

Work is expected to be completed by late December, weather permitting.
