Minister for Main Roads and Local Government
The Honourable Warren Pitt
Maintenance safety boost for Moreton Bay and Sunshine Coast roads
Almost 500km of road in the Moreton Bay and Sunshine Coast regions will benefit from a new $3.55 million joint federal and state-funded maintenance contract.
The Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, Anthony Albanese, and Queensland Main Roads Minister, Warren Pitt, today announced the award of the 12-month contract to RoadTek.
"Routine maintenance work contained within this contract includes about 54km of the federally-funded Bruce Highway," Mr Albanese said
"This section, stretching from the Moreton Bay Regional Council to within the Sunshine Coast Regional Council, is an extremely busy one – carrying up to 80 000 vehicles per day.
"The maintenance work, which includes road and minor culvert repairs, will help maintain the safety and efficiency of a vital tourist and freight route."
Mr Pitt said a range of other state-controlled roads would also benefit from the contract.
"Aside from work on roads, the contract provides for roadside vegetation slashing and signage installation, both of which can significantly improve safety for motorists," Mr Pitt said.
"The list of state-controlled roads covered by this contract includes the Sunshine Coast's busiest road, Nicklin Way, and numerous other highly trafficked and important roads such as Steve Irwin Way, D'Aguilar Highway, Bribie Island Road and Deception Bay Road."
Other Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay roads that will be maintained as a result of the contract are:
• Deception Bay Road
• Pumicestone Road
• Lower King Street
• Beerburrum Road
• Burpengary Service Road
• Brisbane-Woodford Road
• Morayfield Road
• Kilcoy-Beerwah Road
• Maleny-Stanley River Road
• Maleny-Kenilworth Road
• Maleny-Montville Road
• Caloundra Road
• Mooloolah Connection Road
• Palmwoods-Mooloolah Road
