Queensland’s newest “one-stop shop” for health care services has opened the doors to its first patients in Brisbane’s northside.

The new $15 million Nundah Community Health Centre was officially opened today by Health Minister Stephen Robertson and Member for Nudgee, Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts.

“Last week the centre began providing renal outreach and child and youth mental health services to local people,” Mr Robertson said.

“And this week, more services will be rolled out starting with adult mental health and community child health services.

“Previously, people may have travelled to different locations when they needed assistance from more than one service.

“This brand new facility will see a range of key community health services right on the doorstep of northside residents.”

The new health hub will deliver services to a population of more than 106,000, and will see up to 500 people each week.

There will be 80 permanent and 30 visiting staff providing a wide range of community health care services.

“Visiting services including Breastscreen Queensland, the Renal Outreach Service and the Women’s and Newborns’ Service, will also operate from the centre,” Mr Robertson said.

“We have delivered on our commitment to bringing more health services closer to where people live.”

The new centre is in a central location where the surrounding population is served by four hospitals – the Royal Brisbane and Women’s, the Prince Charles, Redcliffe and Caboolture hospitals.

It is part of the Northside Primary and Community Health Service within the Northside Health Service district, which looks after the needs of almost one million Queenslanders.

Local member for Nudgee, Neil Roberts, said that easy access to services and equity for all residents across the diverse community was a top priority.

“Nundah is the ideal location for this new facility,” Mr Roberts said.

“Its services will be readily accessible to people from right across the northside - from Banyo in the north to Keperra in the west down to the Brisbane River in the south.

“Having this health hub in the heart of the local community will mean fewer time-consuming trips to the bigger hospitals – and allow more people to access their care closer to home.”
