Police officers recognised at Community Cabinet

Hervey Bay: Two Queensland Police officers from the Maryborough Police District with experience in various specialised fields were recognised for years of dedicated service today.

The ceremony took place at the Community Cabinet meeting which was held in Hervey Bay as part of the Bligh Government listening to Queensland and planning for the future..

Premier Anna Bligh joined Police Minister Judy Spence and Commissioner Bob Atkinson in presenting National Police Medals to the two officers.

Ms Bligh said: “Both officers are from the Maryborough Police District and have performed duties in a range of areas within the QPS, including general uniform, operational duties and criminal investigations.”

“Together, these officers represent over 70 years of policing experience in Queensland.

“Their professionalism and experience gained through long and dedicated years of service is gratefully acknowledged,” Ms Bligh said.

Senior Sergeant Jan Hunt is currently the Officer in Charge of Maryborough Station. She was sworn in as a probationary officer on 20 October 1972 and has served in Brisbane Mobile patrols, Inala Station, Liquor licensing, Drug Squad, Criminal Investigation Branch and Mt Isa before moving to Maryborough. Senior Sergeant Hunt was also awarded the Australian Police Medal in 2002 for contribution to work in the area of Criminal Investigation and Domestic Violence.

Sergeant Kirklan Chambers is currently the Officer in Charge of Gayndah Station. He was sworn in as a cadet on 14 July 1969 and has served in Fortitude Valley, Redcliffe, Caboolture, Monto and Gayndah.

Ms Spence said: “Our officers maintain their enthusiasm and dedication, knowing the community of Queensland expects to have confidence that their personal safety and property will be protected.

“These officers have made outstanding contributions to this state – and it is a pleasure to have the opportunity to recognise their years of service,” Ms Spence said.
