Benefit fund takes the chill out of winter for Hervey Bay community groups

Hervey Bay: Hervey Bay and Maryborough not-for-profit and community groups will share in almost $230,000 in funding grants in a post-Budget windfall for the area.

Premier Anna Bligh and Treasurer Andrew Fraser today announced the package allocating funding to a range of groups – from the Country Women’s Association to a local BMX club.

“These are the hard-working community groups that often depend on the good will of volunteers and so require and deserve financial assistance,” Ms Bligh said.

“These funds we are announcing today are drawn from two area – the Gambling Community Benefit Fund and the Jupiter’s Casino Community Benefit Fund.

“This is funding that is available to not-for-profit organisations around the state and all you need do is apply – I would encourage every group that is eligible to apply.”

Mr Fraser said the funding announced today included $50,000 for the Queensland Country Women’s Association’s Howard branch from the Jupiters Casino Community Benefit Fund.

He said the funding would go toward the refurbishment of the CWA’s Hall.

“Additionally, almost $200,000 in funding from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund will be shared throughout the community,” he said.

“The Gambling Community Benefit Fund helps grassroots community and not-for-profit groups better deliver services to their local community,” said the Treasurer.

Local MP, Member Hervey Bay Minister for Sustainability, Climate Change and Innovation Minister Andrew McNamara said the funding was always most welcome and congratulated the groups on their success.

“In giving something back to the community, the grants recognise the excellent work of these groups and ensure tangible benefits from gambling revenue,” he said.
