Minister for Emergency Services
The Honourable Neil Roberts
Ambulance infrastructure upgrades for Fraser Coast region
Work expanding ambulance station ‘plant rooms’ at Maryborough, Hervey Bay and Bundaberg is underway.
Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts, in Maryborough as part of the Bligh Government’s Community Cabinet meeting, said the expansion of vehicle ‘plant rooms’ would improve facilities used by ambulance officers.
“Plant rooms are the pit stops of the Queensland Ambulance Service,” Mr Roberts said.
“These works will give ambulance officers more room to house their ambulance vehicles and other resources, which will make their job of delivering emergency pre-hospital care easier.
“The additional plant rooms at Maryborough and Hervey Bay are worth $112,000 and $109,847 respectively.
“The emergency response plant room at Bundaberg cost $28,212.”
Mr Roberts said the works was part of the Department of Emergency Services’ state-wide capital works program, which has been extended in the 2008-09 State Budget.
“The Queensland Ambulance Service was currently receiving record funding.
“The Budget for QAS will increase by $53.1 million to $455.7 million in 2008-09.”
“The Budget allocates $31.2 million in capital works funding, for two new ambulance stations and 21 replacement, refurbished or redeveloped QAS facilities, and $16.9 million for 145 new ambulance vehicles.”
“The Bligh Government is committed to providing the resources and facilities our emergency services workers need to continue to delivery frontline emergency services.”
