Minister for Transport, Trade, Employment and Industrial Relations
The Honourable John Mickel
Go Card has been given the green light on the Gold Coast with bus commuters able to use the cashless and convenient cards from next Monday 30 June.
Minister for Transport John Mickel said the inclusion of Surfside Buses - TransLink's bus operator on the Gold Coast - completed the roll out of the go card across South East Queensland.
"This connects the Gold Coast to the rest of South East Queensland in a truly seamless, world-class public transport system,” Mr Mickel said.
"From Monday go card can be used across the entire network – from Coolangatta to Gympie and west to Helidon.
“If you're travelling on a TransLink bus, train or ferry you can use your go card."
Mr Mickel said Gold Coast residents and visitors could now join the 70,000 commuters who have switched to go card since its roll out began in January.
"The go card has been a great success with more than 70,000 public transport users taking up this quicker, cashless and convenient option," he said.
Mr Mickel said the completion of the go card roll out now meant TransLink could focus on the next stage of the project.
“Up to now a great deal of resources have been focussed on rolling out the go card and ironing out teething problems,” he said.
“Now the roll out is complete, those resources will shift to providing a better service and an even better product.
“For example, we will now begin to explore partnerships with the private sector.”
Four different go cards will be available for purchase – child, concession, senior and adult.
Cards will be able to be used on all buses, trains and ferries across South East Queensland, including Surfside routes in Queensland.
Public transport users can get a go card by phoning 13 12 30, through the go card website at www.translink.com.au/go or by visiting a go card retailer at:
