Visitors to South East Queensland’s most popular precinct now have improved access to information and services with the opening of the new South Bank Visitor Centre.
Premier Anna Bligh officially opened the Centre today located on the ground floor of South Bank House in Stanley Street Plaza, South Bank.
Premier Bligh said the new Visitor Centre is now more visible to Parkland and precinct visitors and includes a range of new services and merchandise.
“The Visitor Centre has always provided guests with detailed information on everything South Bank has to offer, including cultural activities, holiday accommodation, restaurant and event information,” Ms Bligh said.
“South Bank Corporation is always looking at ways to improve the visitor experience and have implemented a number of initiatives.
“One is the upgrade of the pools to include further water saving measures; improved lighting and landscaping, and most importantly, the inclusion of a disabled access ramp.
“With the Mater Hospital close by and the new Children’s Hospital soon to be built in the precinct – the new pool access ramp will be a welcome addition for families. The Corporation is hoping to purchase a suitable pool wheelchair in time for summer.”
South Bank Corporation Board Chairman Steve Wilson said the Visitor Centre previously known as the Visitor Information Centre – has been providing services to the precinct’s residents, visitors and workers since the Parkland’s inception in 1992.
“The Centre had previously been located in the beautiful heritage-listed Allgas Building, also located in the Stanley Street Plaza,” Mr Wilson said.
“The Centre’s visibility is much improved in this new location, and we have an exciting, and much-loved retailer coming into Allgas House in the near future.
“With more than eight million visitors to the Parklands each year, it is important for visitors to have an easily found one-stop-shop for all of their requirements, needs and questions,” he said.
The Visitor Centre will continue to provide information to visitors on not only South Bank, but Brisbane and South East Queensland, on events, tours, accommodation and dining experiences.
The Centre will also continue to be the Ticketek and Qtix agent not only for our visitors but for the precinct’s large worker population and increasing number of residents.
