The Honourable Anna Bligh
APPLY NOW: THIRD AND FINAL ROUND OF Q150 COMMUNITY FUNDING
Premier Anna Bligh today called on community organisations to ‘apply now’ for their share of the third and final round of Queensland’s 150th Celebration’s Community Funding.
2009 marks Queensland’s 150th anniversary of independence from New South Wales.
Round three submission period begins 1 July 2008 and ends 5 September 2008.
Ms Bligh said successful applicants for rounds one and two meant Queenslanders had more than 180 Community Funded projects and events to commemorate or participate in next year for the State’s 150th anniversary.
“We have achieved some great coverage across Queensland communities with rounds one and two, and this is the last chance for communities that have so far not submitted applications to do so,” she said.
“So far communities have successfully applied for more than 180 projects in about 120 towns and suburbs of Queensland.
“They’re participating in the Community Funding Program with great pride which is really adding to the growing excitement in these communities about the State’s 150th anniversary next year.
“We have seen successful applicants for events, arts, literature, Indigenous, multicultural, and women’s Q150 projects. If your proposed project has application to the past and the future, all the better.
“Queensland certainly has plenty to celebrate over the past 150 years and Q150 Community Funding is a way communities can bring their contribution to our past and future to the fore.
“We are expecting plenty of competition for the final $2 million of Community Funding available to communities so there is no time to waste.
“I look forward to announcing the successful recipients of round three Community Funding on Proclamation Day, 10 December 2008.
All local councils, schools, tertiary institutions (including TAFE), incorporated organisations and community groups are eligible to apply.
To help communities plan and stage celebrations, the Queensland Government has offered grants of between $2000 and $10,000 since 2007 for community projects and events through a three-round Community Funding Program.
