High tech marine firm opens Australian HQ in Queensland

A high tech composites supplier that is saving manufacturers around the world up to 40 per cent in boat building costs is moving to Loganholme.
The company, High Modulus, is a leading international supplier of composites technology and has revolutionised composite boat building around the world.
Minister for Regional Development and Industry Desley Boyle said Queensland firms would become even more competitive internationally with High Modulus now located in the state.
“Their new location between Brisbane and the Gold Coast is ideally situated to serve the plethora of composite boat building firms in the region,” Ms Boyle said.
“Three quarters of all recreational vessels manufactured in Australia come from businesses located between Brisbane and the Gold Coast – so it makes good sense for High Modulus to set up in Loganholme.
“The marine industry is a key sector for Queensland’s economic future, contributing $2.6 billion a year to the economy and employing more than 11,000 people.”
Newly-appointed Managing Director of High Modulus (Australia) Mark Clothier said the company chose Queensland because of its established boat building industry, affordable industrial facilities and availability of skilled labour.
“I look forward to doing business here in Queensland – we see a lot of potential for growth here,” he said.
High Modulus has also recruited Tony Riek, a member of the Queensland Fibre Composites Forum chaired by Parliamentary Secretary Jan Jarratt. Mr Riek, formerly of Riviera, has been engaged to manage the set up of the company’s unique B3 SmartPac production in Queensland.
The B3 SmartPac produces made-to-order pre-cut core materials and reinforcements for boat builders, reducing time, labour and waste during the lamination process.
