The Honourable Kerry Shine

Townsville Seminars to Give Overview of Body Corporate Law

Queensland's body corporate law will be explained at free seminars in Townsville this week.

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Kerry Shine said the seminars being held on 18 and 19 June would be of particular interest to those who lived in or owned a unit or townhouse.

"Queensland has arguably the most sophisticated body corporate management legislation in Australia," Mr Shine said.

"One of the seminars is intended to provide guidelines for new owners and will give an introduction to body corporate law and the responsibilities of body corporate and lot owners.

"A separate seminar will be held for body corporate committees, focusing on the role and decision-making process of the committees.

"This workshop is open to both voting and non-voting committee members as well as anyone with an interest in committees."

Mr Shine said community living was an increasingly popular lifestyle choice for many Queenslanders.

“Our state has more than 36,000 schemes, comprising more than 330,000 lots,” he said.

“The number of schemes has risen significantly in the past decade and will continue to grow with increased mixed-use or medium to high-level density living to help accommodate our growing population.”

Both seminars will be held at the Townsville RSL,139 Charters Towers Road, Hermit Park.

The 'Role of body corporate committees' workshop will be held on Wednesday, 18 June from 5pm - 7pm. The 'Guidelines for new owners' seminar will be held on Thursday, 19 June from 9.30 - 11.30am. To reserve a seat, contact 07 3227 7899.
