LOS ANGELES: Queensland should remain at the top of the list for US film producers seeking world-class expertise and value-for-money across location, production, special effects and post-production services.
This was the message from Queensland Premier Anna Bligh when she met with film executives and studio representatives today in the heart of the US film industry, Los Angeles.
Ms Bligh attended a dinner this evening for film executives from Walt Disney Studios, Dune Entertainment, World Wrestling Entertainment Films, Village Roadshow Entertainment Group, SI Holdings, DreamWorks SKG and Walden Media.
“Even with the challenge of a significantly stronger Aussie dollar, Queensland remains a bargain when it comes to employing our skilled labour and facilities to service the international film industry,” Ms Bligh said.
“Queensland boasts a huge range of diverse and dazzling location options around the state. Importantly, an array of these options such as our beaches and rainforests are in close proximity to the Warner Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast.
“This accessibility can allow for significant time and cost savings in a production budget and provide a comfortable, convenient internationally-linked base for cast and crew members.
“Queensland’s film crews have a range of international feature film and television credits with eight major US features and three US television mini-series completing production in the State from 2004 - 2007.
“Our Queensland visual effects expertise has helped to create US blockbusters including Superman Returns, Peter Pan, Ghost Ship, Scooby Doo and House of Wax.”
“Other recent Queensland-linked US productions include the feature films Nim’s Island (Walden Media), The Ruins (Dreamworks), Fool’s Gold (Warner Bros) The Condemned (WWE), Aquamarine (Fox 2000), The Marine (WWE), See No Evil (WWE), House of Wax (Warner Bros), The Great Raid (Miramax) and Peter Pan (Revolution Studios) as well as the television mini-series projects, The Pacific (HBO/Playtone) Monarch Cove and The Starter Wife (NBC Universal)
Queensland’s world-class post-production companies offer a full suite of services including SD or HD telecine film conversion and colour timing, full sound design, offline and online editing, title design and compositing, and are complimented by Avid rental with full technical and IT support.
Post houses also offer projection theatres, fast turnaround dailies and streaming services.
