Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry
The Honourable Desley Boyle
Queensland wants you – skilled graduates encouraged to come to Smart State
Our great lifestyle and Smart State vision will be heavily promoted to encourage international university graduates who studied in Australia to come work in Queensland.
Minister for Tourism, Regional Development and Industry Desley Boyle said the graduates would be targeted at today’s Australian Universities Alumni Convention in Singapore.
“Australia is already a very popular destination for international students, with currently 240,000 enrolments across the nation – so it’s our job to let these graduates know about the opportunities available to them in Queensland,” Ms Boyle said.
“The fact is we enjoy a great quality of life and have excellent career prospects.
“The next phase of Queensland’s Smart State strategy, which the Premier launched last month, is about attracting the world’s best minds to ensure our research centres, institutes and laboratories are internationally competitive.
“It goes without saying that these former students have much to offer – many of them are well established in engineering, molecular biology, and information and communications technology.”
Ms Boyle said Queensland had undergone a significant cultural and economic transformation over the past ten years.
“Queensland has made major investments in infrastructure and diversified its economy to place emphasis on knowledge-intensive industries such as biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and clinical science,” Ms Boyle said.
“We’ll be pushing our Smart State message in Singapore, and also let them know all about our great Queensland lifestyle.”
The Minister added that major new investments by the Government in cultural facilities such as the Gallery of Modern Art and the Roma Street Parklands will be highlighted during the Queensland presentation in Singapore.
